The Catholic Church through its social action arm, the National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA)/Caritas Philippines, extends its sincerest gratitude and congratulations to “Your Face Sounds Familiar” Grand Winner Melai Cantiveros.
This after Melai Cantiveros has chosen the Alay Kapwa desk of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Marbel in Coronadal, South Cotabato as its charity to receive P1 million from her prize money.
“We are very thankful to Melai Cantiveros for choosing the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Marbel as her beneficiary. We assure her that this amount would truly go a long way in helping the poorest of the poor particularly in the provinces of South Cotabato, Saranggani and Sultan Kudarat, and victims of natural disasters,” NASSA/Caritas Philippines National Director Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona said.
The Alay Kapwa is the Lenten evangelization program of the Catholic Church which raises funds to support and sustain social action initiatives on peace and advocacy, good governance, sustainable agriculture, promotion of women and children’s rights, disaster response and other developmental concerns.
As the social action ministry of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, NASSA/Caritas Philippines implements the Alay Kapwa program in partnership with the 85 dioceses nationwide including the Diocese of Marbel.
It can be recalled that “Alay Kapwa” also supported disaster response by the Church during the recent typhoons Ruby and Seniang by providing almost P5-million to the affected dioceses.
Currently, it has an on-going campaign called “40 4d4 (Forty for the Poor)” in celebration of its 40th founding anniversary. The said project hopes to gather P4-million funds this year to empower the poor and marginalized women through self-help group (SHeG) micro-entrepreneurship.
