“I am a better person now!“

NASSA/Caritas Philippines and its implementing Diocesan Social Action Center partners have not only provided shelters, water and sanitation facilities, and livelihood. It has also changed people’s behaviour and unleashed hidden potentials.
Rosanna dela Cruz was deeply hurt that she no longer wanted to face life anymore after her mother died. She seldom hanged out with friends like other 25-year olds would usually do. She was also hardly known in their neighbourhood precisely because she never engaged herself in community-related activities. In other words, she was nobody, so to speak.
But things reversed in 360 degrees when the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center began its 3-year recovery and rehabilitation program for Typhoon Yolanda survivors in Iloilo province… when the JASAC was in search of volunteers who could look after the warehouse, which serves as the storage for supplies used for shelter construction.
In an unforeseen turn of events, Rosanna volunteered herself as a warehousewoman. She found new friends, who also volunteered during the entire course of the shelter construction in Brgy. Santol in San Dionisio Town.
“I’m really very thankful because through this program, my self-confidence went notches higher than I dared to imagine. It also gave me courage to fight all the hardships I encountered in the past,” she said.
Now, here is Rosanna, a picture of a confident young woman.
